Our Verdict

The Coleman 16-Tin is the tried and true over the shoulder beverage caddie. Simple and easy to use, information technology tin hold plenty frosty cold ones to get you through the game, and it comes in a compact size at an accessible price. With this model, you have a removable rigid liner providing shape and a wider full zip opening making it easier to get things in and out. You lot do, however, lose pregnant "stay cold" power with less insulation. Testers constitute that the Coleman sixteen keeps water ice for significantly less time than others tested, and as the proper noun implies, information technology has a much smaller capacity. It may be perfect for a brusque afternoon out for one or ii, just information technology merely doesn't stack up when a more meaning day is in the works.

Our Assay and Exam Results

Nigh everybody remembers having a luncheon box at some point in their life. The Coleman xvi is reminiscent of that. Simple, no frills, no extraordinary claims, just a uncomplicated cooler fabricated for uncomplicated uses. With this cooler, what you run into is what yous get.

Insulation Value

The Coleman xvi-Can is one of the smallest coolers we tested in this category. You can fit xvi cans in there if yous don't want any ice, simply it also barely holds a standard 7-pound purse of water ice. It too has just a regular erstwhile attachment on top - not a leakproof zipper past whatsoever stretch of the imagination. Not surprisingly, we found that this libation performed amid the worst out of those tested in our insulation testing.

Comparing results during insulation testing of models 20L and smaller. The REI Pack Away 24 fits in this grouping because we tested information technology in its near user-friendly configuration -- a cube -- which nosotros measured just under 20L.

Lasting 27 hrs at the USDA food-prophylactic temperatures of 40°F or below, the Coleman isn't the all-time choice for your raw nutrient storage. It also just maintained optimal beer temperatures of fifty°F or less for not much longer (31 hrs). Yet, we should note that this is also the least expensive model we tested, and information technology doesn't boast whatever lofty claims.

Ease of Use

The Coleman is simple and straightforward - it does what it was designed to do. It carries just fine over the shoulder, the forepart pocket is big enough for silverware and a bottle opener, and the large zippered top gives plenty of infinite to load and unload. It's a bit narrower than we would like, which may restrict y'all from putting sure sandwich boxes or h2o bottle-other drink combinations hands inside. The plastic insert makes washing easy, providing the libation has been upright, and no residue has made it underneath the insert. It's important to note that this cooler is only waterproof if you use the plastic insert. Without that box, the fabric of this trivial purse hands takes on water.

There are also some additional features that puzzled testers. There are several mesh pockets, one on each side and one under the hat, which aren't large enough for much more than wrappers. There are also some bungees on the top of the hat that don't seem to have much more than an artful purpose. These features don't make anything easier or harder to use, merely they don't add much.

Portability

The Coleman does have one thing going for information technology: information technology is exceptionally portable. If you are moving small foodstuffs or a few beverages around, information technology is like shooting fish in a barrel to grab this thing and go. The shoulder strap, while not remarkable, works simply fine, and the libation is small-scale enough to be kept on an easy-to-get-to shelf. It's lightweight, weighing merely i.7 lbs empty, and has a pretty low contour for conveying. And considering it's so modest, you tin can't put too much into it that would weigh it down and make information technology awful to behave. Despite that this is the smallest cooler nosotros tested; it's really not our favorite personal model to carry - merely it's fine.

Durability

Regarding durability, the Coleman is some other "yous go what you pay for" state of affairs. It has a light nylon canvas exterior and a plastic liner. It seems to exist merely a matter of fourth dimension before the liner breaks or a tear in the canvas would develop. While information technology should exist understood that this cooler isn't for hard use, information technology would exist nice to have a lilliputian more conviction in its structure.

Value

The Coleman is the least expensive soft cooler we tested. It's a fairly straightforward pick that provides some insulation, but it isn't the ideal option to keep things fresh in a blistering car all 24-hour interval. If you're just after something to stuff under your office desk until your luncheon pause, this is a bully option.

Determination

If you are looking for something small, elementary, like shooting fish in a barrel, and inexpensive, the Coleman 16-Tin may be for yous. Information technology's elementary, easy to utilise, and doesn't agree any surprises. It'due south a solid choice for an indoor lunchbox, only if you seek a midsummer adventure partner, we recommend looking elsewhere.
