What is the prize on America's Got Talent?

The winner of season 17 will walk away with $1 million.

What does the Golden Buzzer mean on America's Got Talent?

We all love those emotional Golden Buzzer moments when one of the judges or host Terry Crews is so moved by a performance that they press the Golden Buzzer, confetti streams down, and that act is sent directly to the live shows. Each of the judges and Terry only gets to use the Golden Buzzer one time per season and that takes place during the initial audition period.

We have gotten so used to the Golden Buzzer, we forget that it wasn't initially a part of AGT. In fact, it wasn't introduced until season 10. But it has proven how good a judge of talent our judges and host are. Five out of the seven AGT winners since its introduction—Paul Zerdin, Grace VanderWaal, Darci Lynne, Kodi Lee and Brandon Leake—were Golden Buzzers. The exceptions are Shin Lim and Dustin Tavella.

America's Got Talent Golden Buzzers for season 17

Terry Crews picked the first Golden Buzzer of the season when he was moved by 21-year-oldAvery Dixon from Atlanta, who performed "Try a Little Tenderness" byOtis Redding on the saxophone.

Terry  said, "There's no need to vote. Avery, you touched the heart of every human being in this building right now. I want to tell you, you've been bullied all your life, but you tell every bully that you have a big brother named Terry Crews, who has your back, and all those bullies are going to have to watch you succeed."

On week two, Howie picked 11-year-old Madison Taylor Baez from Yorba Linda, Calif., who impressed the judges with her rendition of "Amazing Grace," which was sneakily introduced during a break in the show.

"This is what you wanted, this is your dream," Howie told Maddie. "To be on this stage, not just to watch. Everybody's going to know your name now, young lady. Your life has just changed."

On week 3, Simon selected 13-year-old Sara James from Ośno Lubuskie, for her performance of the emotionalBillie Eilish song "Lovely."

"Sara, Sara, Sara, we've heard a lot of singers over the years, but wow!" Simon said. "This wasn't perfect, but you have a real star glow about you. It must be such an unbelievable feeling doing this in front of an American audience because I am guessing this is where you dreamt of performing. I can remember when I came to America and that was 20 odd years ago. That was a moment I will never forget, and I want to make this a moment for you to remember forever."

Sofia was moved by the Lebanese dance troupe, Mayyas, which means, the proud walk of a lioness in Arabic, and she gave them something to be proud of with the Golden Buzzer. "There are no words to explain to you what we were feeling over here," Sofia said immediately following the dance. "That was the most beautiful, creative dancing I have ever seen." I would be so honored to empower you even more on this journey because you deserve it and I want to be part of this."

The final individual Golden Buzzer was given out by Heidi Klum to 27-year-old singer/songwriter Lily Meola, who performed the original song "Daydreams." Lily's s talent and heartbreaking story touched Heidi, so she had no choice other than to put her through straight to the Live Shows.

"I'm speechless," Heidi said. "Everything about you, you just light up. I see a light around you. Immediately, I fell in love with you. For this season, season 17, I was, 'There's always a lot of singers on the stage, I want to give someone else a shot.' But I can't help it because I really, really like you, so I'm going to do this. I'm going to push the button for you."

There was a surprise Golden Buzzer given out -- a group Golden Buzzer that was won by country trio Chapel Hart for its performance of the original song "You Can Have Him Jolene."

Simon said, "If I hadn't used my Golden Buzzer, I would give you a Golden Buzzer."

Then the audience began to chant, "Golden Buzzer," Golden Buzzer." The judges conferred, Terry came down from the stage and, for only the second time in the history of Golden Buzzers, a group Golden Buzzer was awarded.
